Kosovo Exhibit Touchscreen and iPad

TOUCHSCREEN

If functioning normally, should be on/illuminated with a grid of images showing the Congressional Gold Medal ceremony.

Opening Routine

  1. Turn monitor on.
  2. The power button is located on the back of the screen, at the bottom in the center. The power button is the one farthest to the left when you are facing the screen. If in doubt, check button labels.

Closing Routine

  1. Turn monitor off.
  2. The power button is located on the back of the screen, at the bottom in the center. The power button is the one farthest to the left when you are facing the screen. If in doubt, check button labels.

If the screen is blank…

The computer may have turned off after an update or a power outage.

  1. Check the tiny computer mounted behind the touchscreen. If the power light is off, push the power button to turn the computer on.
  2. Find the keyboard behind the touchscreen. Remember to put it away neatly when you have finished using it.
  3. Press enter to log in—there is no password.
  4. Press the Windows key (between function and alt – funny looking flag) on the keyboard to bring up the start menu/bottom menu bar.
  5. Open Chrome.
  6. Navigate to web page in one of the following ways:
    1. Click the bookmark in Chrome called Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony Photos.
    2. Alternatively you can browse to this url: http://doleprddamwb01.cc.ku.edu:8080/assets/mediadb/services/module/asset/players/collections/display/AWK6uKNNqNjYHL2Tj6BX.html
    3. This is the preview collection URL from Megan’s CGM collection so you can also browse to that collection in Entermedia then go to properties and click the Preview button.
  7. Remember, this is a touchscreen, your finger is your mouse. Press and hold for “right click” functionality.
  8. Press F11 to send the browser into fullscreen mode.

That didn’t work.

  1. Try pressing ctrl+alt+delete > Start Task Manager > click the Visix task (in the Applications tab) and then the End Task button. Follow the steps above.
  2. Call an archivist and describe the problem. If they are unavailable, send an email with a basic description of the problem to Audrey, Julie, and Sarah.
  3. Post “Temporarily unavailable” sign.

Useful keyboard shortcuts:

F11 will show the browser menu at the top of the window. (Take it out of or put into fullscreen mode.)

F5 will refresh the browser window. (This is sometimes necessary if the swipe functionality is broken.)

iPAD

The iPad uses the Youtube app to play a private playlist on a loop from the diopdigital youtube account.

If the screen is not on the Youtube video...

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the iPad to get the app menu. Click on the Youtube app, then go to step 5 below.

If the screen is blank…

The ipad probably ran out of battery.

  1. If it is not near an outlet, plug it in via extension cord.
  2. If it is already plugged in, unplug it and then plug it back in again.
  3. Start the Youtube app.
  4. It should be already be logged in as DIOP.Digital.
  5. Go to Library and select the DoleKosovoDelegation playlist.
  6. Press the loop icon to play in a loop:
    1. In the playlist area in upper right side of screen, there is a small thumbnail of the video. In that area, near where it says “1/1,” press the arrow to show the video(s) in the playlist.
    2. The playlist will expand to show one video.
    3. Press the icon that looks like two arrows chasing each other in a circle.
  7. Press the CC button at bottom to turn on subtitles/closed captioning.
  8. Press the fullscreen icon (remember, this is just youtube on a fancy stand).

That didn’t work.

  1. Call an archivist and describe the problem. If they are unavailable, send an email with a basic description of the problem to Audrey, Julie, and Sarah.
  2. Post “Temporarily unavailable” sign.
