Summary
George Herbert Walker Bush began his political career when elected to the House of Representatives in 1966 and then served as the Republican National Convention (RNC) Chair from 1973-1974. He served as Vice President from 1981-1989 alongside President Ronald Reagan. Bush defeated Senator Dole for the 1988 Republican Presidential nomination and subsequently served as the 41st President from 1989-1993. He failed to win a re-election in 1992 to Bill Clinton.
