Animal Rights

Summary

Animal rights center around the idea that non-human animals should be afforded the ability to live as they wish—independent from the wishes of humans. A dog-lover himself, Senator Bob Dole supported numerous pieces of legislation that focused on bettering protections for animals in both the research and conservatory sectors. He also sought to reform existing regulations and statutes, such as the Endangered Species Act, in order to resolve problems found in conservatory and breeding practices. As a result of his support of animal rights, Senator Dole received various awards for his work throughout his Congressional career.
